Study contents

Online course overview

The online Bachelor’s programme in Engineering offers you an interdisciplinary approach to engineering studies. You’ll learn all about the required scientific, mathematical and technological principles necessary for a career in engineering.

In addition, you’ll explore topics such as academic research, how products are developed, and how to combine traditional engineering skills and knowledge (such as physics and product development) with new technological aspects (like cybersecurity and the Internet of Things).

During your studies, you’ll build a strong foundation of electrotechnical knowledge, so you could tackle complex engineering and electrotechnical projects in the future. You’ll graduate with a familiarity with simulation technology, design thinking and data driven engineering – a truly modern and up-to-date engineer.

And to round off your studies and prepare you for your chosen professional path, more career-oriented elective modules are available in the last two semesters of the study programme. That’s when you’ll be able to develop specialist knowledge that expands on your theoretical and practical education, tying up the concepts you’ve explored throughout your Bachelor studies.

Take your engineering skills to the tech world and help companies protect sensitive data. Design potential hacking simulations and the infrastructure required to defend IT systems from any potential threat, identify security gaps and work on the overall maintenance and optimisation of a well-defended business IT infrastructure.

  • I chose IU because it is the most flexible of all the online universities I looked at.

    Marie Arnold

    Online student

  • I decided to study online because I wanted to develop professionally and at the same time have enough time for family and job.

    Veronika

    Online student

  • I find data science is an interesting area of science where lots of things have not yet been discovered and development moves fast. That's also why I chose to join the M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence programme which I am currently studying at IU. The programme, tutors, and professors at IU are really accessible. I'm convinced this programme will keep my knowledge current or even create a new trajectory for my career.
