IU Orientation Week The perfect welcome to university life at IU

You’ve arrived in Germany and classes start in one week – now what? You’re in a new place with limited knowledge of the language, seeing new faces everywhere, and adjusting to a new sense of autonomy around your studies. Chances are, you’re feeling a little overwhelmed.


But there’s no need to worry! At IU, you’ll feel welcome and supported every step of the way – starting with Orientation Week. Here’s an overview of what you can look forward to when you’ve arrived in Germany.

Arriving in Germany: Next Steps

Enrol at our campus

You’ll need to enrol in-person at the IU Student Office. Make sure to bring along your documents for verification.

Get started at IU

Receive access to everything you need for your studies including myCampus, IU Learn App, IU email address, Office 365. During your first week at IU, you’ll also have an orientation programme.

Study, network and explore

Attend the in-person lectures and organise your self-learning time flexibly with our online materials. You'll also be able to work part-time and get access to our online career services and networking events.

Complete your studies

Hooray, you made it! If you complete your last six months on campus, you will be eligible for an 18-month post study visa so you can stay and look for a job in Germany.

One week before classes officially begin, we have a range of exciting sessions to get you started on your IU journey. Orientation Week is the perfect opportunity for you to meet the IU community, complete your enrolment, ask questions, and essentially prepare yourself for the beginning of your studies.

At the end of the Orientation Week, all presentation slides will be made available on the IU myCampus student platform. Here’s a summary of what you can expect:

Live Presentations

Due to limited capacity, you will need to register your attendance for the live presentation.


What we’ll cover:

  • Introduction to the teams at IU

  • Enrolment and administrative processes

  • Health insurance in Germany

  • Student card/transportation ticket, per semester (Deutschlandsemesterticket)

  • Other useful information to help you navigate life in Germany
