Your pathway to an education and future in Germany

The IU Pathway Programme is a one-year bridging course which will help you gain the competencies you need to enrol in your desired degree programme with on-campus learning at IU. The course is designed to help you: 

  • Develop communication skills in academic and business English 
  • Build a solid foundation in economics and business application of maths 
  • Get a head start in your future career with German language skills 
  • Integrate seamlessly in Germany with understanding of its history and culture 

Once you’ve completed the Pathway Programme, you will be able to start your desired bachelor’s degree programme in our on-site learning model at IU.

Passed the TestAS? Skip ahead and start in the second semester.

The IU Pathway Programme typically spans two semesters within one year. However, if you have a passing score on the TestAS*, you can skip the first semester and start directly in the second semester, saving you both time and money. 

*Please note that TestAS is an external proficiency test not associated with IU and must be organised independently by you. We accept all passing results of the TestAS core test, regardless of the subject module. 

Berlin

Our campus is in the centre of Berlin and has everything you need for your studies. Have face-to-face lectures in our classrooms, study in our library, and find a quiet spot to concentrate on learning.

Bad Honnef

FAQs

Am I eligible for the IU Pathway Programme?

You will need to have at least a non-direct university entrance qualification (which will be checked by our team via Anabin) to be eligible for the Pathway Programme. 

 In addition, unless:  

  • English is your native language* 
  • Or you have graduated from an English-speaking school 
  • Or you have already completed your Bachelor’s degree taught in English 

you will also need to provide a B1 English language certificate from one of the following accepted tests: 

  • TOEFL (at least 60 points) 
  • IELTS (at least 5.0 points) 
  • Duolingo English test (at least 85 points) 
  • Cambridge certificate (at least C grade overall)

Please note: Proof of English proficiency must be submitted before the start of your studies and must be no older than five years. 

Can I enrol in the IU Pathway Programme online?

No, the Pathway Programme is only available to students enrolled in our bachelor's degree programmes with on-campus learning in Berlin or Bad Honnef. For online students, we offer the opportunity to earn a Cambridge A-Levels qualification through the High School Diploma Study Pathway.

With our on-site learning model, you get the unique opportunity to combine online studies with in-person learning – you can enjoy campus life in Germany, study closely with your peers, and talk to your tutors up close and personal.

Is the IU Pathway Programme valid elsewhere?

No, the IU Pathway Programme is a non-official bridging course solely designed to prepare you for our bachelor’s degree programme with on-campus learning at IU.
