IU International University of Applied Sciences, operated by IU Internationale Hochschule GmbH, is a state-recognised private university of applied sciences headquartered in Erfurt, Germany. As Germany's largest private university with over 130,000 students from more than 190 countries, it offers more than 250 Bachelor's, Master's and MBA degree programmes. 

This website, www.iu.org, is the information and application platform for our English-taught, on-campus degree programmes for international students. Our campuses are located in Berlin and Cologne, with the university's headquarters in Erfurt.

We want every prospective and current student to be able to find information, compare programmes and start an application independently — regardless of whether they use a screen reader, keyboard navigation, magnification, captions or any other assistive technology. 

This website is based on the requirements of the German Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) in conjunction with EU Directive 2016/2102. We are continuously working to further improve the accessibility of our digital offerings. 

To ensure accessible access, we have implemented various measures. 

These include: 

• Improving contrast ratios. 

• Implementing clearly visible keyboard focus indicators and ensuring keyboard operability of the website. 

• Adding descriptive alternative texts for images where they contain relevant information about our programmes, campuses or services. 

• Marking purely decorative images as such (“decorative image”) so they can be skipped by screen readers. 

• Providing form fields — including our information request and application forms — with machine-readable labels to facilitate use with assistive technologies. 

• Using clear, structured headings so that programme pages can be navigated by screen reader. 

The assessment of accessibility was carried out by: 

• External review: Independent review by an external agency. 

• Combined testing methods: Automated testing, manual expert review by an external agency and testing with assistive technologies. 

The content of www.iu.org is published in English only, as all programmes presented here are taught in English. We aim to write in clear, plain English and to avoid unnecessary jargon, because many of our visitors are not native English speakers. Some legally required documents may additionally be provided in German. 

Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. This currently applies in particular to: 

• Downloadable documents such as programme fact sheets and brochures (PDF), which may not be fully tagged for screen reader use. If you need the information from any document in an accessible format, please contact us and we will provide it. 

• Video content, where captions or transcripts may not be available for all material. 

• Third-party tools and embedded services integrated into our site — for example our chat and AI assistant functions, the student-to-student chat, review widgets and webinar registration — whose accessibility we can only influence to a limited extent. We are in contact with the relevant providers and will look for accessible alternatives where necessary. 

• The online application portal, which is a separate system and is being reviewed as part of a separate improvement process.

Support during your studies

If you do not receive a satisfactory response to your accessibility enquiry within a reasonable time, you can contact the enforcement body of the federal state of Thuringia, where the university is headquartered. 

Procedure process: 

• Contact us first: Please report barriers or issues by email to barrierefreiheit@iu.org. Our accessibility contact person will review your request and respond within a reasonable time. 

• In case of inadequate resolution: If no satisfactory solution is found, you have the right to involve the enforcement body. 

• Mediation procedure: The enforcement body will review your case and mediate between you and us to find an amicable solution.
