Curriculum Overview

MSc Cyber Security curriculum

This course is spread out across four semesters, covering key computer science principles and security methods. The summer semester assessment will be a Master's Thesis. This will allow you to demonstrate your independent research skills and showcase what you have learned.

The modules will give you in-depth knowledge of:

Interested in Cyber Security at Bachelor level?

IU does not currently offer a dedicated on-campus Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security. If you want to start your studies at undergraduate level, the closest route is our BSc Computer Science


This Bachelor’s programme gives you a broad foundation in computer science, including programming, software engineering, databases, operating systems, algorithms, IT service management and cryptography. If you are interested in cyber security, you can choose the non-specialisation track, which includes the elective module Introduction to Data Protection and Cyber Security


In this route, you can build core computer science knowledge first, then explore cyber-related topics such as data protection, IT security, network and communication security, authentication, firewalls, malware protection, social engineering risks and secure software development. 


Once you have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree, you may be able to continue into a specialised Master’s programme such as IU’s MSc Cyber Security, subject to meeting the admission requirements.
