How to apply

1. Get to know us and our programmes

Your journey begins here – get to know who we are and what we stand for. Our website also has useful information that will tell you more about life on campus in Germany – and help you decide what to study to achieve your professional goals.   

  

You’ll find detailed information about all our programmes, including the admission requirements and tuition fees, through the navigation menu at the top of each page. There’s also general information about IU, our graduates, and how studying with us can help transform your career.   

  

Finally, it’s important to note: if you are a student from India, China or Vietnam – you may need an APS certificate to apply to pursue a degree in Germany. Once you know what it is and how to obtain it, you can prepare to apply for the degree of your choice at IU!  

2. Choose your programme

Now it’s time to request your free personalised brochure.


 Fill in your details in the form available on any study programme page or click on the ‘request free information’ button at the top.

Once you have all the information you need, the next step is to fill out our application form.

3. Apply online and upload your documents

Once you've decided on your programme, it's time to apply! Click on the 'Apply now' button at the top right corner of the page and fill out the application form.


Keep in mind that you'll need to upload the documents required to be enrolled in your programme, so it might take some time. Don't worry - you can always save your application and return to it when you have everything.  If you have any questions – just talk to our  Study Advisors . You can also fill out your application form with their help over a phone call!


Indicate your chosen programme on campus and your desired start date. We have two intakes a year: April and October. Some programmes only have two intake dates per year; you can find the full details in your free information material.  

4. Document check & admission interview

Once you’ve submitted your application form, our admissions team will review your uploaded documents and contact you via email in case any additional documents are required. You can easily upload the requested documents to your application overview page.  


Once your application is complete and all documents are submitted, you’ll receive an invitation to book a 15-minute online interview. During the interview we will discuss your academic background, reasons for pursuing further study, and career objectives.

5. Sign your IU study contract and pay your one-time campus registration fee

Once your application is approved, you will receive your personalized study contract via email. Simply read through it, sign, and send it back. 

 

The contract contains your study fees, start date, and the terms and conditions of being an IU student. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have about the different legal aspects of your contract. 

 

At the same time, you will also need to pay the one-time campus registration fee. As soon as we receive your signed contract and the payment is processed, we’ll send you your official Letter of Admission.  

6. Apply for your visa

Now that you're enrolled, it's time to apply for a visa to join us on campus in Germany! The acceptance letter is required to begin the visa application process at a German embassy or consulate in your own country. If you're coming from India, China or Vietnam, you'll also require an APS certificate that you can read more about here. 

 

Our trusted partner will support your visa application process free of charge. Remember to start it quickly so you can join IU in time for your chosen intake period.  In case you don’t get it in time, you can push your application to our next available start date!

7. Start your studies

If you complete the visa process successfully - congratulations, you are now ready to travel to Germany and start your IU journey! The next stage of your career awaits you. And you're not going to be on your own: our Study Advisors are available at the click of a button, to support you throughout your entire studies.  


You can also use a wide variety of career support services during your studies, such as job interview preparation sessions or resume-building workshops.
