Online exams
Take your exams online, whenever and wherever you want

Having a flexible schedule means you get to do everything on your own terms – even your exams.

At IU, you don’t ever need to come to campus. Everything happens 100% online, at your own time, according to your needs.

Book your exams on your own, and take them whenever you’re ready, from the comfort of your own home or wherever you want to be. No exam period, no fixed deadlines, no problems.

As travel distances are eliminated and the printing and the mailing of paper exams no longer necessary, online exams can also contribute towards climate protection. So you’ll be helping the environment while you benefit from more flexibility and ease – it's a win-win.

We want you to perform at your best when taking your exams. Whether you’re a night owl or an early bird shouldn’t matter: your study programmes is designed to meet your needs.

Different people are at their best at different times of the day or night. You should take exams at a time when you feel on top of your subject and in top shape. That’s why you can simply go online and book the slot you want for your exam.

Worried about taking your online exams?

Don't worry! With the help of the technical test exam, you can get to know the procedure, the exam platform, and how to communicate with the service provider - without the stress of a real exam. Get in touch with our study advisors to learn more.

How to give online exams

Make sure you’re ready to take the test before you start: finish the course book and all  the quizzes and exercises. Some courses offer practice exams, which we recommend trying before you take the final exam.

Once you’re ready, here’s what you’ll do:

Sign up with our exam service provider

Go to myCampus to register your exam. You’ll be transferred to our service provider website, where you’ll need to set up an account.

Book your exam

Pick the date and time you want to take the exam and mark it in your calendar, so you don’t forget.

Check your equipment

When it’s time to take the exam, log in to the service provider’s website. The website will use the webcam to check your identity, your equipment and whether your workspace is set up appropriately.

Take the online exam

Now you can start scoring points with your knowledge. When you’ve completed your exam, end it by clicking the “submit” button and let the person monitoring your exam (the proctor) know.

Done! You’ll get your results back in about 6 weeks.

Your online exam results

Once you’ve completed your online exam and submitted it, your answers will be sent to us and examined. The results and your grade for the exam will be uploaded to myCampus within 6 weeks.

There’s no online exam certificate issued after you’ve passed an exam, but you can print out your results and grade via myCampus, in case you need to present them to someone outside of IU.

Didn’t pass your exam? That’s ok – you have up to 3 attempts to pass each exam and course.

Online exam for students: what you need to keep in mind

Your online exam is just like any other exam – do not attempt to deceive, copy the work of others, or try to trick the proctor. If you will be caught doing any of these things, your exam may be disqualified, and you might be suspended from taking online exams.

Take your exam seriously! You need to pass it in order to complete the course. But don’t stress too much! It’s just an exam. If you’ve studied well, there’s no reason why you won’t pass successfully.

Use the flexibility to your benefit: take the exam in the most comfortable set-up you have. Wear comfy clothes, have water and snacks ready, and pick a quiet location where you can set up your equipment with ease, without being disturbed.

Though the dates are flexible, you’ll need to take the exam in one of the available time slots. That means that, sometimes, the time of the exam won’t be 100% ideal for you. We try to make as many slots as possible available.

Make sure your equipment is working properly before you start the exam. If the exam is interrupted due to a technical issue on your end, it may be disqualified and not be graded.

What happens if your internet connection is interrupted in the middle of an exam? Reach out to the exams office within 24 hours and notify them of the situation. The team will work with you to find a solution.
