IU graduation - Your guide to our ceremonies

Completing your studies is a major achievement and something you can be truly proud of. Be sure to mark the occasion by celebrating with your IU community, as well as your family and friends.


Below, you will find an overview of IU graduation ceremonies for international students, including key details to help you prepare for this special occasion:

On-campus graduation ceremony

Features:

  • Held twice per year: July and December.

  • Live streaming accessible globally.​​

Important:

  • Due to limited venue capacity, attendance is strictly limited to on-campus graduates.​

  • No exceptions can be made.​

  • If you cannot attend your on-campus ceremony on the assigned day, you will be invited to join the online ceremony as an alternative. ​

Online graduation ceremony

  • Online graduates

  • On-campus graduates who cannot attend their assigned in-person ceremony

Features:

  • Held twice per year: February and September.

  • Live Streaming accessible globally.​

  • Includes speeches, recognition of graduates, and celebration moments​

Registration requirements

Register on time

To ensure proper organisation of each ceremony, all students must register within the indicated timeframe.​


No exceptions can be made for late or missing registrations.

Meet eligibility requirements

Ensure you meet all academic and graduation criteria before registering.​

Please remember

It is the student’s responsibility to complete the registration fully and correctly.​

Before you register:

Read the Instructions carefully before completing your registration:

  • Please read all instructions thoroughly.​

  • Due to the limited number of tickets, please register only if you are able 100% to attend the event. If you are not sure you can attend, please do not register and allow another graduate to use the ticket.​

  • Make sure all fields are completed correctly.​

  • Only submit the form once you have understood all steps.​

  • Incomplete or incorrect registrations will be automatically cancelled.​

  • Please take your time and fill out the form carefully.

Guest policies for the graduation ceremonies

Before registering, it is important to be aware of the guest policies for the graduation ceremony. ​​

  • Online graduates may invite an unlimited number of family members and friends by simply sharing the live-streaming  link provided.​

  • On-campus graduates, however, may invite a maximum of two guests, with no exceptions and subject to venue capacity and ticket availability. They may also share the live-streaming link with additional family members and friends.​

Invitation letters for family (Only for on-campus ceremony)

If your family members require an invitation letter to attend your on-campus ceremony, please request it well in advance by emailing us at internationalevents@iu.org

Please provide your full name, date of birth, student ID, field of study, and your address (in Germany).​


Please note: IU will not contact any embassy on your behalf regarding this process. If the embassy rejects the invitation, this is beyond our control.
