How to apply

How our application process works: Online studies

1. Get to know us and our programmes

Our website has useful information that will tell you more about our approach to studying at IU and help you decide what to study to achieve your professional goals.

You’ll find detailed information about each of our online programmes, including the admission requirements and tuition fees, through the navigation menu at the top of each page. There’s also general information about IU, our graduates, and how studying with us can help transform your career.

There are over 50 online Bachelor’s, Master’s and MBA programmes with different lengths of time you can study for, and different tuition fees. So make sure you do your research, choose your programme – and start getting your application ready!

Finally, it’s important to note: if you are a student from India, China or Vietnam – you may need an APS certificate to apply to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Germany. Once you know what it is and how to obtain it, you can prepare to apply for the degree of your choice at IU!

2. Choose your online programme

Now it’s time to request your free, personalised brochure.

Fill in your details in the form available on any study programme page or click on the ‘request free information’ button at the top.

If you have a question the brochure didn’t answer, why not…

  • Talk to one of our Study Advisors

  • Visit our FAQ section

  • Or attend one of our upcoming webinars

Once you have all the information you need, the next step is to fill out our online application form.

3. Apply online

You can fill out your application form with the help of our Study Advisors during a phone call. Or you can do it in your own time by using the ‘apply now’ button at the top right corner of our website.  The application itself is completely free of charge – you only pay for your tuition fees when you start studying.

4. Sign your contract

Once you’ve submitted your application form, we will generate your study contract.

Read through it, sign it digitally and upload it to your personal upload page.

The contract contains your online programme study fees, your starting date, and the terms and conditions of being an IU student. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have about the different legal aspects of your contract.

5. Upload your application documents

The documents you need to submit depend on your online study programme, and are indicated in the programme page on our website (under admission requirements) as well as in our free information material.

if you are required to obtain an APS certificate (a requirement for all students coming from India, China or Vietnam), you will need to allow enough time to complete the application process. Check our blog post. If this requirement applies to you, you cannot start your studies before you provide us with a copy of your APS certificate.

You can use your personal upload page to upload them. The link is in the e-mail you receive along with your contract. Our admissions team will be notified once you’ve made an upload, and will review your documents within five business days.

If you need help, our Study Advisors will be happy to help.

When your application is approved, you’ll get an e-mail from our admissions team.

6. Start your studies

Now you have everything you need and can start studying online at IU.

The most important thing to remember is that you won’t be on your own. Our study coaches are available at the click of a button, to support you throughout your studies.

You can also use a wide variety of career support services during your studies, such as job interview preparation sessions or resume building workshops.

In the meantime, why not familiarise yourself with the professors in charge of your degree programme?
