B.A. Aviation Management

Devid Bergold

"The reputation of IU had a positive influence on my job applications."

With a bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, David Bergold paved his way into business aviation.

If you have a degree in Aviation Management, you have many of professional opportunities in the aviation industry. After completing my studies, I applied to various companies in the aviation industry, including Air Charter Service GmbH. Thanks to my background in aviation, the company was immediately very interested and offered me a good job at the end of a short application process. I joined the company as Executive Jet Consultant. After more than two years, I took the next step - and switched to my current employer, Air Hamburg Luftverkehrsgesellschaft mbH. Air Hamburg is Europe's largest provider of charter business aviation. 28 business jets bring private customers from point A to point B worldwide.

Career at Air Hamburg

I started at Air Hamburg as Sales Manager. Relatively quickly, I was promoted to Senior Sales Manager where I had team responsibility. The company grew, I took on more and more responsibilities, and was promoted again - to Vice President Sales. Our team's most important responsibilities are to get the 28 airplanes in our fleet into the air and to answer more than 1,200 inquiries per day - often with operational constraints. There are also a number of other projects in addition to our day-to-day business. On top of that, I try to pass on my recently acquired knowledge to new students, for example as a guest lecturer at IU (formerly known as IUBH).

Expertise and leadership skills

Three of us now lead a team of 28 colleagues from six different countries. Our goal is to keep up a high level of fun and motivation for everyone. The fact that I have already experienced a very international environment at IU (formerly known as IUBH) helps me a lot. And, of course, my business and aviation management expertise is extremely helpful in my daily work. I would definitely recommend IU (formerly known as IUBH) - also thanks to its practical relevance and small study groups. The degree is also recognised on the job market: I think that IU's (formerly known as IUBH) good reputation in the aviation industry had a positive influence on my applications.
